Dissolve 3 Pkg. dry yeast in 1/2 cup warm water Add: 2 cups hot milk & 1 cup cold water to yeast mix Add: Flour to make sponge & let rise Add: 1/2 cup shortening - (OLEO) melted (see note) 1 1/2 cup sugar 1 Tbsp. salt 1 tsp cardemon 3 eggs 1 pkg. candied fruit 1 cup raisins 1 cup candied cherries Add: Flour to make a soft dough let rise until doubled. Form into round loaves & let rise. Bake 35 min. @ 350 degrees - makes 5 loaves Use cookie sheets or layer cake pans. note (from me): I think OLEO is a margarine? One more thing, she says 2 cups hot milk. Make sure you cool that with the cold water before you add it. Hot could kill the yeast. Also, after the second rise I remember seeing her pour the dough out of a big bowl onto the floured counter and take a knife to cut the dough into 4 or 5 sections and then she would form the final round loaves from those sections. I think this is less rough on the dough than if you just tore a section.
