Re: Midget Axles

Hi Steve ;

I swapped the half - shaft , it slipped right in , same as the original
one .

" fretting " is the wear that occurs in a splined joint , look at the
inner axle end and you'll see it , that is where the axles break , it is
caused by insufficient lubrication - low oil level the rear axle housing
.

 There are heavy -duty half shafts available , expen$ive but perhaps
worth it .

 So far I've inspected the rear axle housings from 1970 ~ 1979 Midgets ,
those will NOT fit - no shock absorber mounts . I will be looking at an
early (?1963?) Midget soon and I'll report back if that one will fit ,
I'm betting it won't as I recall all Midgets use knee-action shocks that
use different mounting then Met shocks do - the spring perches seem the
same but I didn't bother to measure the track as I won't use it sans tube
shocks .
