Re: Engine & trans. oil

Dear Met folks

Just a thought about oils. When you put in a single weight oil you are
putting in more oil as such, when you put in a multi weight you are
putting in less oil and more additives such as a viscosity modifier.
Also newer oils look on can they are called SH may not be suitable for
your older car, the additives formulas have been changed over the years.
When your car was built the oil used was something like a SC or SD look
in owners manual. As a side not the newer oils for newer cars have less
corrosion inhibitors compared to a earlier oil cars now run hotter look
at the thermostat more than likely a 160 or 180 degree a lot of newer
cars run 220 to 240 degrees. the older car unless it is driven for a
long time ie road trip may not get the oil hot enough to take the
moisture out of the oil. If yours is a car that is seldom driven look
into a oil for diesel engines some of which are useable for gas and
diesel engines read the can. A diesel engine does not run as hot so the
oil has more corrosion inhibitors.
